About VU Amsterdam

Founded in 1880, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) is a top research university offering a broad education. It is a place where new ideas and freedom of expression flourish.

Progress to a top degree programme

Once you complete your International Foundation Year programme, you can choose from a range of degree options, including:

In today’s data driven world, organisations need expert judgement and sharp analysis to ensure they make the right decisions. Business Analytics enables you to harness the power of data science, big data, statistics and machine learning to optimise results and achieve strategic objectives.

Computer Science consists of a wide variety of methods, insights and skills that are related to the scientific and practical use of computers. This is why the Bachelor program has both a technical and a broad character. The technical side consists of Programming, Computer Systems and Networks, Data Structures, the Theoretical Fundaments and the use of Mathematics and Logic.

International Business Administration aspires to bring graduates to the market that are well-rounded academics as well as professionals and citizens, that have a fine-grained understanding of the three core elements of the programme: People, Business, and the International Context.

Politics, Philosophy and Economics are the cornerstones of society. Understand these, and learn how life is organised and governed.

The first year will give you a strong knowledge of these three disciplines, before you choose two for more focused study. The third year begins with either international study or an internship and ends with a bachelor’s thesis and applied, interdisciplinary project.

Student life in Holland

You will feel welcome from your first day of living in Holland. The Dutch are famous for their open-minded and liberal mindset, accepting different behaviours and customs. Studying here, you can enjoy a rich culture and beautiful environment, with the rest of the country and Europe right on your doorstep.

The courses are very helpful. In the first year, you get to learn everything so you know which specialisation you really want to do. For example, you can do accounting and you can also do finance and marketing. There are a lot of options because it is still broad.

Last year I applied to go to Lisbon for a study trip. We explored the city but we also did company visits and got a chance to know how it feels to actually work in Lisbon and also building connections.
